In an innovative partnership with the United States Air Force (USAF) in Europe, we delivered a series of cutting-edge VR soft skills training sessions that helped their personnel build resilience, improve teamwork, manage change, and prevent burnout. Using virtual reality training platforms and immersive learning techniques, we brought teams together across multiple locations—no travel required, just meaningful connection in a virtual world.
This ambitious programme was part of the USAF’s True North initiative, designed to enhance mental health, well-being and leadership capability among service members. With VR, we were able to deliver training that felt just as real as in-person workshops—only more flexible, scalable, and engaging.
The Challenge: Connecting Personnel Across Locations
The USAF in Europe has personnel spread across different operational environments. Traditionally, delivering soft skills training at this scale meant flying in trainers, coordinating timetables, and pulling people away from duty for extended periods.
By switching to VR-based training, the Air Force achieved something far more efficient. Using MeetinVR (a platform designed for professional collaboration in virtual environments), we hosted interactive workshops where participants could speak, collaborate, and problem-solve together as if they were in the same room as the trainer.

Virtual environments allow participants to interact as though co-located.
What We Delivered
Our programme included monthly VR sessions covering a range of soft skills and professional development areas, including:
- Resilience and Stress Management
- Change Management and Adaptability
- Preventing Burnout and Maintaining Wellbeing
- Giving and Receiving Feedback
- Teamwork and Cross-Unit Collaboration
The content was tailored specifically to the needs of USAF personnel, taking into account the unique demands of military service and high-performance team environments.
Modules covered feedback, leadership, collaboration and resilience.
Scalable and Sustainable Delivery
A key aspect of the programme’s success was its scalability. The USAF procured their own VR headsets, and we trained a cohort of six personnel to manage and run the technology independently. This created a sustainable delivery model where:
- Sessions could be run simultaneously across multiple bases
- Personnel in one location could access trainers based anywhere in the world
- Internal facilitators could support or even lead future sessions
This model demonstrates the power of VR soft skills training: once the infrastructure is in place, the learning experience becomes easily repeatable, with minimal external support.
Making Remote Feel Local
Whether standing in a virtual circle to discuss burnout or using collaborative whiteboards to explore leadership challenges, VR makes the experience feel local—no matter the physical distance. Participants from the USAF reported high engagement, strong retention of content, and a sense of shared space and connection that video calls simply can’t replicate.
In today’s hybrid and globally distributed working world, virtual reality training enables organisations to deliver connection, interaction and impact at scale.
Real-World Collaboration: GE Case Study
This approach is already helping other global organisations. We’ve worked with General Electric (GE) to deliver VR training for HR business partners located across the US and Europe. Their teams joined the same immersive sessions without boarding a single plane.
We also helped GE onboard their graduate intake from both continents together—shipping VR headsets to each participant and guiding them through collaborative training sessions in an engaging, future-forward environment.
The Future of Training Is Here
This isn’t just about replacing traditional training—it’s about reimagining it. Virtual reality soft skills training offers organisations:
- Cost-effective, repeatable learning delivery
- Immersive, interactive engagement for global teams
- Faster upskilling without geographical limits
- A sustainable model for internal capability-building
Whether your teams are stationed internationally, working from remote locations, or operating in a hybrid model, VR training platforms can bring them together for powerful, human-centred development experiences.
